The Department operates under a full-service concept: fire
suppression, emergency medical services, hazard mitigation,
hazardous materials control, underwater rescue/recovery,
specialized rescue (both above and below grade), fire
prevention inspections, and public education. The Village of
Lake Zurich also provides these services, under contract, to
the Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District.
The Department is a fully paid
department. There are presently the Chief, Deputy Chief, 1
Captain Training Officer, 3 Captain Shift Commanders, 12
Lieutenants, 39 full-time Firefighter/Paramedics, and a
full-time civilian staff of 5.
The total combined service area of
the Lake Zurich Fire Department is roughly 25 square miles and
approximately 35,000 citizens. During 2000, the Fire
Department responded to 1,618 fire calls and 1,678 EMS calls,
a total of 3,296 fire/rescue calls for help. This equates to
an average of 9 calls a day.
The Department's emergency vehicle inventory consists of
four (1,000 gallon) Engines, one Aerial (100') Truck ( 400
gallons), one Special Rescue Squad, four Advanced Life Support
Ambulances, one Brush Truck, two Boats, one Incident
Command/Shift Commander vehicle, three Fire Prevention cars,
